Many novice interpreters find the support and guidance of a mentor to be critical in closing the gap between graduation from a program and readiness to work. Mentoring practices were studied in some depth from 2005 to 2010 through the collaborative efforts of the Consortium and RID. These studies resulted in identifying the characteristics of effective mentoring relationships, qualifications of mentors, and responsibilities of those interpreters who were successfully mentored. Visit the Mentorship pages to learn what mentoring is, how to find a mentor, and what resources and supports are available to effect advancement of interpreters.
